Grey Nomads - Nomadic Life - The Site for anyone who wants to live a Nomadic lifestyle in Australia.

Welcome to www.NomadicLife.com.au the Website for those who are “On the road” or contemplating a trip around Australia.

Whether you consider yourself a Grey Nomad or not, is not important, what is important is that you have a great journey. At Nomadic Life our philosophy is:

RocketManRocketManLife should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways Chardonnay (or a beer) in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming
Woo Hoo! What a Ride!"

Australia is a fabulous country, how about you go and see as much of it as you can? If you are like a lot of people we know, you have travelled around some of the world, thinking that Australia can be done later. Has the time now come for you to see as much of Australia as you can? Then here is the site to help you prepare for that trip of a lifetime.

We offer information and suggestions about what to take, how to prepare, and so much more. There is nothing worse than getting down the road and realising you have left out a vital component from your packing list. With help from this site you will be able to find out what others are taking, and whether the items are right for you.

Everybody has different ideas about what to pack, and there is no “right” list, but there is “your” list, or for our PDF version click here. You can request an "editable" version to be emailed to you, just ask NomadicLife

Everyone is different, and some people need 2 suitcases just to go away for the weekend, while others can do it with just a clean set of underwear, and a toothbrush. What is right for you may be somewhere in between. This site will help you decide what you need, to do the trip of a lifetime.

If you are taking something, which is not on our list, please let us know, as others may need it as well, and it can be added?

We have information about health and safety on the road. There are suggestions on the type of rig or caravan you might want to buy (or rent), and general information about what to expect along the way.

Information to make the journey a memorable one, for all the right reasons, rather than the wrong ones. Do you know which State Borders allow fruit across (Fruit fly prevention), and those that don't? Or which do not allow farm animals (Tick gates)?

Which areas do not allow extra petrol, or alcohol to be carried, and in some cases don't even allow polystyrene boxes. Check out Aboriginal Lands before you go, rather than after you get caught going into an area you should not be going.

Other considerations: Before you go, do you sell the family home, or maybe you are going to be renting it out, to help finance the trip, but which is the right decision for you? Whichever way you go, try looking at budgeting or supplementing your income, or perhaps banking links to help you decide. It is so important that you are not worried about things, like "have I made the right decision", because it will eat away at you. A better solution might be to rent-out the family home, and rent a rig to do a trial run. This way you can "road test" your decisions.

It may be the perfect lifestyle for you, but if it is not it can turn into the trip from hell. Most people find the lifestyle great, but if it is hard for you to mix with people, it may drive you crazy. How much time is spent with others is a personal decision, which can not be made for anyone. What is right for you, is what is important. Remember at some stage you might want to stop travelling, and then where do you live? Think about these issues, before making the ultimate decision of sell or not sell your home.

We also hope to provide a forum later, where you can “meet” your fellow travellers to exchange tips and ideas, to make the experience an extraordinary one.
