Motoring Associations.
There are Associations in every State, so just choose one nearest your home, and they have reciprocal arrangements with other States.
If you are going to remote places, a membership is highly recommended for those moments when you just can't proceed. They also have links to petrol prices, and where to find the cheapest. In some instances you may have only one option, so don't risk running out, when it is not convenient to do so, just so you can get it a few cents cheaper down the road.
